The Mustang
Artist (s): Mr. Jeffrey Leech
Location in school: Main Office
Year completed: 2009
Rationale / Description:
Upon hearing the news that our school mascot was the Mustang, the new Visual Art department began planning its first Mural painting dedicated to the school, its staff and its students. Our intention was to depict an image of beauty, strength and determination that would come to embody all of the efforts brought to bear in creating, building and running Maxwell Heights Secondary School.
It was important from the very beginning to paint an image of a mustang that was in motion, surging forward through time and space. Reflective of the progressive and forward thinking approach to the school's philosophy and practice. A dynamic faculty of educators had been assembled and the image had to also reflect the vigour, tenacity, and enthusiasm that defines their teaching practice. Finally the painting had to reflect the youthful and energetic potential of our students, surging confidently toward their own future.
